A real vintage here – 1955, 62 years ago. It doesn’t take a degree in history to work out from the title that this production was mounted to help contribute to Ballybricken’s Church Fund. It was a production based on the life of St. Therese the Little Flower. Much more information other than that is sketchy, but I’m very grateful to Phil Healy and family for sending this one my way. I’ve managed to unearth two columns from the Munster Express as well that are relevant to the production. Vintage Waterford Theatre at it’s best – with a full orchestra led by Fintan O’Carroll – another legend in Waterford theatrical history. Pat Mellett, uncle of St. Therese, would be better known as Pádraig Ó Méalóid, who read Nuacht and was involved in lots of Irish language and other programmes on RTE. He worked as a teacher in Waterford, married a Waterford woman and then moved to Dublin.
